Mossberg celebrates its 100th year in operation in 2019, and to celebrate the occasion, the company released a retro-style model of its popular Model 590A1 pump-action shotgun. The new Mossberg Model 590A1 Retrograde pays homage to the wood-stocked police and military shotguns of yesteryear, coming equipped with a full-length walnut stock and corncob-style fore-end.

With the Mossberg Model 590A1 design being the only pump-action shotgun that's passed military testing, the core receiver of the new Mossberg 590A1 Retrograde is built to the same demanding specifications. The shotgun uses non-binding twin action bars, as well as dual extractors for dependable cycling and feeding. Built on an anodized-aluminum receiver, the action features steel-on-steel lockup for durability, and an anti-jam elevator design ensures that rounds travel from the tube magazine to the chamber without interruption.

Several features found on the 590A1 Retrograde are designed to provide intuitive operation in stress-filled scenarios. The top-mounted, tang-style safety allows users to move from safe to fire without adjusting their grip on the gun, and ghost-ring sights are included in lieu of the standard brass-bead front sight for an accurate, aperture-style aiming system. As is found on synthetic-stocked models of the 590A1, the top of the barrel is protected with a perforated heat shield, ensuring that users can grasp the gun without fear of burns after long strings of fire.

Each Mossberg Model 590A1 Retrograde is built with a 20-inch, heavy-wall, cylinder-bore barrel complete with a 3-inch chamber and treated with a black, Parkerized finish. Total capacity on the gun clocks in at nine rounds. Overall length of the shotgun measures 41 inches, and the 590A1 weighs 7.25 pounds, unloaded. Other features of the Retrograde model include a metal trigger assembly, metal safety selector, bayonet lug and recoil-absorbing buttpad.

Through more than 50 years of production, the Mossberg 500-based shotgun lineup has filled the defensive needs of professionals and civilians alike. More than 12 million models have been sold, and the company honors that popularity and legacy with the availability of this new 590A1 Retrograde. The suggested retail price on the gun is $902.
