First Look: American Defense ADM4 Rifle

American Defense Manufacturing announced the release of its newly designed line of ADM4 AR-15 rifles and corresponding receivers, enhancing the aesthetics, function and design of the tried-and-true AR platform.

The American Defense ADM4 Universal Improved Carbine Mod 2 is constructed on the company's 7075-T6 billet-aluminum lower receiver complete with a hard-coat anodized finish. The ADM4 design steps up the traditional AR design by incorporating ambidextrous controls through, including the magazine release, bolt catch and bolt release. The lower also incorporates the company's takedown pins, which feature dimpled surfaces for easy, scratch-free disassembly of the upper and lower receiver.

Other features of the lower receiver include a magazine well built for competition use, incorporating a 20-degree cut that allows for quick, easy mag changes. The receiver also includes an enlarged trigger guard that allows for confident trigger manipulation with gloved hands, and the interior of the receiver uses an adjustment screw that allows rifle owners to tighten the fit between the upper and lower receivers, eliminating rattle.

For AR aficionados who plan to build their own rifle from the ground up, the ADM4 receiver is available as a kit shipped from the company with all ambidextrous controls and dimpled takedown pins installed, enabling users to add the upper receiver and stock of their choice. One caveat made by the company is, due to the design of the ambidextrous bolt catch/release, the lower cannot be used with triggers that include anti-rotation pins with plates and screws located on the outside of the receiver. GI-style triggers, drop-in triggers with mil-spec trigger pins and Geissele triggers are compatible. CMC triggers can be used with American Defense's low-head pin.

The American Defense ADM4 Universal Improved Carbine Mod 2 uses an upper receiver equipped with a 16-inch barrel featuring a .223 Wylde chamber. The barrel is machined by Criterion Barrels from 4150 CMV steel and uses a 1:8-inch twist rate. The enhanced bolt-carrier group features a QPQ-nitride finish, and the upper operates with a mid-length gas system covered by a 13.5-inch fore-end compatible with M-Lok accessory attachments. Other accessories include a Battlecomp 1.0 muzzle device and Magpul Pro back-up iron sights.

Suggested retail pricing on the ADM4 UIC Mod 2 AR-15 is $1,850.
