Bipods are one of the best ways to steady a rifle in the field, but many hunters and long-range shooters elect to not equip their rifles with such accessories, mainly due to the heavy, cumbersome design of many bipods on the market today. The new UTG Recon Flex bipods from Leapers, Inc. are designed to eliminate those shortcomings, giving rifle shooters the lightweight add-ons they need to make precision shots in the field.
The UTG Recon Flex bipods are machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and feature a hard-anodized finish to protect the metal from corrosion and reduce glare in sunlight, thanks to the coating's matte-black color. The bipods are designed as direct-attachment devices, working in conjunction with both KeyMod and M-Lok attachment-compatible handguards found on most AR- and chassis-style rifles on the market. The system is designed to work independently at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions on the rifle's handguard.
This direct-attachment setup is part of the significant weight-savings offered by these bipods, eliminating bulky, heavy mounting blocks that lock onto tradtional Picatinny rails. Further weight can be shaved off, since users don't have to attach modular Picatinny rails to their rifles, and the direct-attachment method also reduces the number of areas where loose attachment screws can play havoc with a user's rifle system.
The UTG Recon Flex bipods provide a new level of flexibility and versatility, thanks to the company's five-position base, which locks into place with a locking ring that operates under spring tension. This gives owners the ability to store the bipods either forward or rearward and deploy in a 90-degree and forward- and rearward-facing 45-degree angles. Both legs are also height-adjustable from 5.7 inches to 8 inches.
Once users set their preferred adjustment height, the bipod features locking wheels that secure the bipod into place, ensuring that users have a stable rest from which to take precision shots, no matter where they are. Another feature of the bipods is included rubberized feet for added stability. The total weight of the system is 10.8 ounces, and each bipod attachment requires two M-Lok attachment slots for operation.
The suggested retail price on the UTG Recon Flex bipods is $54.97.
