First Look: Christensen Arms Mesa Long Range Rifle

Christensen Arms added to its line of Mesa rifles with the addition of the Mesa Long Range rifle, providing long-range shooters and hunters with the company's ideal precision-rifle platform.

The Christensen Arms Mesa Long Range rifle is constructed using a carbon-fiber composite riflestock that features an adjustable comb that is raised and lowered through the use of spacers in order to provide users with a solid resting point for their cheek when looking through an optic.

The rifle is built on a Christensen Arms action, which is machined entirely from a billet of 416 stainless steel. The receiver features a widened ejection port that allow for reliable case ejection while facilitating easier loading of cartridges through the port. The receiver also features bottom metal that is fully machined from aluminum and features a hinged floor plate for quick emptying of rounds. Christensen Arms also worked to improve the bolt release used on its action. Finally, the action also features the company's match-grade trigger, which can be set between 2.5 and 3.5 pounds.

Inside the receiver, shooters will find a twin-lug spiral-fluted bolt that features a nitride-treated finish and an M16-style extractor. For magnum-caliber guns, the rifle will feature dual ejectors. The bolt features a skeletonized handle, along with a fluted bolt knob and a tungsten Cerakote finish. The rifle uses an internal magazine that features a four-round capacity, three rounds in magnum calibers.

The barrel, made from 416-R stainless steel, measures 24-26 inches long, depending on caliber selection and is free-floated and button rifled. The barrel also features a medium Palma profile and includes a side-baffle brake that is removable. A threaded muzzle with a 5/8-24 TPI thread pitch is included, and the barrel features a hand-lapped finish, along with a match-grade chamber.

The total weight of the Christensen Arms Mesa Long Range rifle is 8.9 to 9.9 pounds, depending on caliber, and each rifle is made in the USA and ships with a sub-MOA guarantee. Rifles are available in 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win., 7 mm Rem. Mag., 26 Nosler and .300 Win. Mag. The suggested retail price on the gun is $1,595.
