First Look: Thyrm SwitchBack 2.0

Thyrm announced the launch of its SwitchBack 2.0, building on the success of the company's original SwitchBack design released in 2014 with a number of improvements learned over thousands of hours of real-world use.

“We spent the last year paying close attention to our customer’s feedback, working with our experts to test dozens of prototypes. We couldn't be happier with the new design,” Thyrm CEO Andrew Frazier said. “As with our other gear, we are proud to design and manufacture the SwitchBack 2.0 in the USA.”

The Thyrm SwitchBack 2.0 is a unique ring design that attaches to everyday-carry flashlights. The device is secured to nearly any EDC light on the market with 1-inch diameter bodies by locking itself between the light housing and the tailcap, giving users a simple and easy way to deploy their light while ensuring that they have a secure grip on their defensive firearm.

Some of the benefits of the SwitchBack 2.0 is the ability to securely retain a flashlight under recoil and rough conditions, a difficult task to accomplish with certain flashlight techniques employed with a handgun. In addition, the device gives owners the ability to get closer to a two-handed pistol grip than most flashlight techniques on the market allow.

In the 2.0 model, the company made a number of upgrades, including a redesigned pocket clip that is compatible with MOLLE webbing commonly seen on the market. The clip also feature a new design that allows users to carry their lights deeper inside the pocket, providing a more discreet, secure carry method.

The body of the Thyrm Switchback 2.0 also features an enhanced thumb rest that ensures users have a more tactile engagement surface, allowing them to manipulate the direction of the light more easily. The device also incorporates a finger ring built with a release that allows for quick removal of the light from a finger. The new model also features crush ribs for a better fit on most lights, as well as a new aluminum spacer that allows for use with the Streamlight HL and HL-X light models.

The Thyrm SwitchBack 2.0 retails for $19.99. In addition to the 2.0, the company also has three other SwitchBack models compatible with several specific light models.
