Whether you're a fan of the 9 mm cartridge or not, there's no denying the round is popular. It's nowhere near as inexpensive as it used to be, but it's still one of the least-expensive, centerfire handguns round out there, and for that reason alone there's a lot of shooters who keep some on hand.

Freedom Munitions has started to offer some bargain 9 mm that is anything but cheap. The company's American Steel line, championed by professional shooter B.J. Norris--who is now the sales manager for Freedom Munitions--was introduced earlier this year as an affordable, reliable option. Cartridges are steel-cased, but with brass plating to ensure proper feeding.

Norris explained the impetus behind the American Steel line: "Freedom Munitions exists primarily to satisfy the high volume shooters need for high quality, cost effective range ammunition. Now, as we start to mature as a company, we're releasing several premium products such as HUSH, specifically designed for use in suppressors, and our latest innovation, American Steel."

Presently only the 115-grain 9 mm is offered under the American Steel line, but more bullet weights, types and caliber options are expected to become available.

MSRP: $10.75/50-round box.
