While 2009 ended at somewhat of a lull in relation to my U.N.C.L.E. Special Project, completion in 2010 appears not only promising, but coming soon.

The blog Goddess must have smiled following my previous post, which caused the wheels of progress to spin once again. Joe's long-awaited carbine handguard appeared in the mailbox that same evening. It is currently with my gunsmith for finishing and installation. Thus, images of the completed product, along with a detailed range report and videos will follow.

Speaking of videos, check out the compellation of youtube clips showing blog fans Paul and Eric shooting their very functional U.N.C.L.E. carbines sporting the aforeblogged titanium components.

It's true: imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery. Strangely, however, I can't help but feel somewhat conflicted.

The journalist in me feels extremely humbled. However, that other part of me—the Dr. Frankensteinesque firearm fanatic—feels not only a sense of victory and vindication associated with witnessing a successful experiment.

However, the Oregon U.N.C.L.E. group's efforts have proven that not only is my desire to construct a functional U.N.C.L.E. carbine possible.

The affliction is contagious and spreading wonderfully.
