Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. recently announced the release of the company's new REC10 model, available in .308 Win. Representing Barrett's first semi-automatic .308 Win., the REC10 employs what the company deems an optimized direct-gas-impingement system designed to reduce recoil. This system has undergone extensive testing by the U.S. military and has resulted in the REC10 being chosen as the medium-caliber rifle of choice.

“We've been working on the REC10 behind-the-scenes for more than two years. Before we bring a rifle to market, we have to know it meets the standards of the most demanding users in the world – the armed forces. Winning this contract further confirms, we’ve done our job,” stated Chris Barrett, President of Barrett Firearms.

Barrett claims that all components of the REC10 has been engineered to guarantee combat reliability, durability and accuracy that shooters expect from the company. Each REC10 variant is tuned for both suppressed and unsuppressed fire. Upper and lower receivers are machined from billet 7075-T6 aluminum and feature completely ambidextrous controls. The svelt, freefloat-aluminum handguard utilizes M-LOK mounting slots for accessories and is topped with a full-length Picatinny top rail for sights. lights or other optics.

The REC10 represents the first semi-automatic .308 Win. offering from Barrett. While the bolt-action MRAD does have .308 Win. as an option, until the release of the REC10, all other semi-automatic offerings were either in large calibers like the company’s signature M107A1 in .50 BMG or 5.56 NATO in the REC7. With the launch of the REC10, Barrett will now offer large-receiver, AR-style semi-automatic rifles.

The REC10 will make its official debut at SHOT Show in Las Vegas next month. Barrett will be giving away a complete REC10 system outfitted with industry-leading components and accessories, a package worth over $7,500, at the official launch.
