With the full power 10mm loads in the Kimber Eclipse 10mm,Colt Delta Elite 10mm,Dan Wesson Razor 10mm,Glock 20 and 29 10mms and EAA Witness 10mms a 357 Mag 1911 is obsolete. The 10 is more powerful and it is a rimless case and more reliable feeding into a semi auto pistol.Perhaps Coonan should develop a 10mm,a 50GI or a 45ACP+P 1911.Doubletap 45ACP+P loads approach the power of full power 10mm loads.
As for .357, I have 2 .38 Supers that like the CorBon +p ammo. They both like the 9×23 a lot as well. And that 10mm is ridiculous! I can get a top end to convert my Witness, so when I feel like going hotter than what I have I’ll go 10. Several .45s that are sources of joy as well.
Do I want a Coonan? Of course, just to have one!
I think the top end 357 magnum ammo such as Buffalo Bore out does the top end 10mm ammo by a slight margin, but in the end stopped is stopped.
I cronyed my Coonan with Buffalo Bore 158gr JHP – 1570 FPS which comes out right around 870 foot-pounds, or well over twice a .45. In addition to being a lot of fun to shoot, this thing is a real no-sh** hard hitter.
the 357 magnum looses a fair amount of energy from the cylinder gap in a revolver. I would venture to guess the Coonan with the hottest ammo available will out do a 10mm with the hottest ammo available as far as foot pounds of energy. The 10mm obviously out does the 357 magnum in terms of size of caliber and bullet weight and capacity but the 357 magnum bullets tend to have better sectional density so better penetration at the same speed.
I love my Coonan. I don’t care about 10s and 45s. I like its accuracy. love its feel. I even like the way it smells.
