Following the success of the SIG Sauer M17 pistol platform in the competition process to select the U.S. military's new service pistol, consumer interest in the gun spiked as enthusiasts clamored to get their hands on the new gun. SIG Sauer responded with an all-new commercial variant of the service pistol: the P320-M17.

“It was truly an honor for SIG Sauer to be chosen as the U.S. Army’s choice with the M17," said Tom Taylor, chief marketing officer and executive vice president of SIG Sauer. "When the selection was announced, civilian interest in the pistol was immediate. We are proud to bring this P320-M17 to the marketplace to meet the substantial civilian interest, and the high demand, to own the pistol the Army uses as well as the other branches of the U.S. military.”

The all-new SIG Sauer P320-M17 is a near-exact representation of the company's military variant, chambered in 9 mm and featuring a striker-fired design. The pistol is equipped with the manual thumb safety located on the side of the frame and is finished with the same coyote-tan PVD finish specified by the U.S. military in its contract with the company. The gun also includes all-black controls and SIGLITE night sights. At the rear of the slide is a removable plate, allowing for the addition of slide-mounted reflex optics. Each pistol is sold with a carry-length grip module.

Dimensionally, the SIG Sauer P320-M17 matches the size and weight of the military's M17, measuring in at 8 inches long, 5.5 inches high and 1.3 inches wide. The slide features a sight radius of 6.6 inches, and the barrel length measures 4.7 inches. Including an empty 17-round magazine, the gun weighs in at 29.6 ounces. Each pistol ships with two 17-round magazines, and an M17 Commemorative Collector's Case, made from solid cherry and a laser-cut foam insert, is also available for an additional $199.99.

In addition to the commercial model, SIG Sauer also announced the availability of commemorative models of the M17 service pistol. The M17-Commemorative Edition is limited to a 5,000-unit run and is serialized sequentially from M17-0001 to M17-5000 and features the U.S. Army's UID identification code that's included on military-contract guns. Even the cardboard packaging is identical to that provided to the military, ensuring that these limited-edition guns are exact replicas of the military guns.

“The M17 is the culmination of SIG Sauer’s steadfast commitment to providing the military with the very best, and our determination to never settle," Taylor said. "We are excited that collectors and civilians have an opportunity to participate in this history.”

Each SIG Sauer M17-Commemorative Edition ships with two 21-round magazines and a single 17-round magazine. The suggested retail price on the P320-M17 is $768, while the M17-Commemorative Edition retails at a suggested price $1,122. Both models will be available at SIG Sauer dealers starting in August 2018.
