The number of firearms sold across the United States in November that resulted in an FBI National Instant Criminal Check System (NICS) background check was the third highest on record for the month, according to an estimate by Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF).
Volume of firearm purchases in October that resulted in an FBI NICs background check was the second highest for the 31-day reporting period on record, lagging only behind the scalding pace in 2020 when the pandemic and social unrest drove transfers to all-time highs.
Monthly firearm sales nationwide are down compared to the record-setting pace of 2020, but remain at a level that put 2021’s total in second place for volume.
