2022 Firearm sales are poised to eclipse pre-pandemic records.

The total number of 2021 firearm purchases processed through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) was the second highest on record.

Firearm sales processed through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in June totaled roughly 1.4 million units.

Of the 4,645,609 names processed through FBI’s National Instant Criminal Check System (NICS) in March, roughly 2.2 million were related to the purchase or transfer of a firearm, according to Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF).

More than 2.2 million firearms were sold in the United States in January, according to an estimate from Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF).

Although total August volume of firearm sales isn't available yet, it's likely that 2020 gun sales have already surpassed all numbers for 2019.

The FBI processed a total of 3,931,607 records through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in June, roughly 1.6 million more than the same month in 2019 and nearly 200,000 more than the previous highwater mark, set in March.

The FBI recently processed over 200,000 NICS background checks in one day, setting the all-time record.
