The total number of 2021 firearm purchases processed through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) was the second highest on record.
Of the 4,645,609 names processed through FBI’s National Instant Criminal Check System (NICS) in March, roughly 2.2 million were related to the purchase or transfer of a firearm, according to Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF).
The FBI processed a total of 3,931,607 records through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in June, roughly 1.6 million more than the same month in 2019 and nearly 200,000 more than the previous highwater mark, set in March.
