According to a new report commissioned by the primary trade association representing the firearms and ammunitions industry, the demographics of recreational shooters in the U.S. has made a dramatic shift in recent years.

A growing number of companies withdrawing from the world’s largest annual trade show for the electronics industry—the CES Show, scheduled Jan. 5 to 8—may be a harbinger of things to come for the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT), which takes place in Las Vegas 10 days later.

NSSF recently announced that the 2021 SHOT Show in Las Vegas has been cancelled.

Volume of firearm purchases in October that resulted in an FBI NICs background check was the second highest for the 31-day reporting period on record, lagging only behind the scalding pace in 2020 when the pandemic and social unrest drove transfers to all-time highs.

With NICS background check numbers staying strong through 2017, the overall economic impact of the firearm industry continued to rise.

In addition to the main show at the Sands Convention Center, SHOT Show also plans to add additional exhibit space at nearby venues in 2020.
