When looking for a sturdy duty holster, many options are possible. Thumb releases, pressure switches, friction-fit and other mechanisms are used to secure the pistol inside the holster. One of the most common and easiest to use are detente catches such as those that capture the trigger guard.

Safariland's Open Top Concealment Holster for the Smith & Wesson M&P (full size or compact) utilizes the last method, the detente. A single set-screw increases or decreases tension placed on the trigger guard for a varying level of retention and security, changed as needed with a simple allen wrench. Suede lining helps protect your firearm's finish when holstered.

Coming equipped with a paddle mechanism, a belt loop backing is also supplied with the holster. The belt loop has three positions for cant, and is attached at three points rather than the paddle's two attachment points. The portion of the paddle that retains the belt needs to be removed, as well.

MSRP: $39. Available in Coyote Brown, Flat Dark Earth, Foliage Green, OD Green and black. Left and right hand configurations are available, and the holster can have a plain, tactical or basketweave finish.
