A few weeks ago we discussed the Train & Defend series of ammunition now available from Winchester. It's a smart concept, with jacketed-hollowpoint defensive ammunition loaded to provide the same velocity as the full-metal-jacketed training ammunition.

One of the more popular calibers these days is the .380 ACP. Most gun manufacturers offer a pocket-size semi-automatic in the caliber, with everyone from SIG Sauer to Ruger to Glock having something available. The tradeoff, of course, with the diminutive pistols is increased recoil; fortunately, the Train & Defend series is specifically designed for lower recoil.

The 95-grain offering is fairly standard for .380 ACP, and is listed as having a muzzle velocity of 950 fps, which is the same as the muzzle velocity for the 9 mm T&D. The design of the T&D series means the "Train" ammunition will perform identically to the "Defend" ammunition, giving a more precise feel for how the ammunition will handle regardless of type.

MSRP: $25 (Train, 50-round box); $23 (Defend, 20-round box).
