Concealed-Carry Course Taught at Illinois College
Illinois may be the only state where persons are prohibited from legally carrying firearms for personal protection under the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, but this weekend some state residents will be qualifying for a permit to legally carry in 31 other states at a course offered by a college in Galesburg.

Through its “Carry-Safe Training Inc.” class being offered as part of the Carl Sandburg College Community Education program, participants will be able to qualify for a Utah concealed-carry permit, presently valid in more states than any other state CCW permit.
For Illinois residents who frequently travel outside the Land of Lincoln, the Utah permit won’t allow them to carry in their home state, but makes it much more convenient for those who regularly carry a handgun in their business, like long-haul truck drivers and others.
We find it indeed ironic that the course will take place on June 16 at a college named in honor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet who is famous for bestowing flattering accolades and focusing on the strength and resiliency of the citizens of Chicago, where today residents must live under the most restrictive firearms-ownership laws in the country, unable to legally protect themselves and their families.
We wonder what Sandburg would write about the “City of Big Shoulders” today.
The cost of this weekend’s course is $100, and those following through with a Utah permit will be required to pay a $51 registration fee to the state of Utah. The 4-hour course is offered in two separate sessions: 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. this Saturday at the college’s main Galesburg campus, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.
The course includes firearms familiarization, dealing specifically with pistols, varying calibers, practical handling and carrying of firearms for protection.
The Utah non-resident permit is valid for five years and is recognized in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington state, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

If these are the same yahoos who taught a very similar class at a small college in southern Illinois earlier this year, watch out!
That bunch was charging $20 for application packets that are free from AZ & FL.
Their instructor was borderline incompetent, giving advice like “you should carry with an empty chamber… it’s the only way to do it safely” and “you should rack your empty-chambered handgun on your pants”.
They have been banned from at least one range complex in Central IL as well.
Caveat emptor.
I took this class and it was awesome. Lots of great information. They did have FL and AZ available for $10 but also explained that we could order it online for free. They included free fingerprints done by a Police Chief for all the packets, and extra photo for FL. Well worth the $10 bucks in my opinion because I didn’t want to hassel with it. You should harp on those instructors that teach the FL to Military Vets for $150 without telling them that they could qualify with their DD214. Now that is BS.
They are the same group that teaches at a Southern Illinois college but not sure what college it is. The instructor never said to carry with an empty chamber. The only reason he racked it on his pants was to show an example on how to chamber a round one handed if your other hand was injured. He said sometimes you may need to reload one handed if your other hand is hurt and it takes a lot of practice. My NRA PPOTH instructor said the same thing. Great class. Have you personally taken their class? Maybe what you hear isn’t always true? Or maybe your another instructor or have a friend thats an instructor and you trying to get people mad at them? I am going to take more classes from them.

Great Class. I think you need to get your facts straight. It was $10 for FL and AZ but included an extra photo for FL plus everyone received fingerprints at no charge. A Knoxville police officer was there. The Instructor told us we could go online and get the packets for free. Great deal if you ask me, saved me some time!
As far as instruction goes it was top notch. The instructor said to carry with a loaded chamber and to never scan and assess with an unloaded firearm. If I recall correctly the only time he racked or chambered a round on his pants was to show us how you can load a firearm with one hand if you non-shooting hand was injured. He really didn’t spend a lot of time on that.
I feel the instructor was very “Competent” and I would take more classes from him. O ya he also stressed the importance of joining ISRA and the NRA.
