Ignore the Man Behind the Curtain

Posted by EdFriedman2, Jan 8 2009, 04:59 PM

So, the ATF issued a notice a couple of days ago to all FFLs that the inventory of Form 4473 (the NICS check form you fill out every time you buy a firearm from an FFL dealer) is running low due to “unprecedented demand.” I wonder why demand is so high? Could it be because the next…nah. Nothing to see here. Move along. Move along.

Being the ATF, the notice must contain a grammatical error to prove its authenticity:

As a temporary measure, ATF is allowing FFLs to photocopy the form 4473 in it’s entirety until they receive their orders from the ATF Distribution Center.

Emphasis mine.

Thank goodness. If there had been no errors, I’d have assumed some Bulgarian hacker punked the ATF. Excuse me while I help an FFL-holding friend photocopy a 4473 in it is entirety.

The last line of the notice should make hairs stand up on the neck of any FFL dealer: "A notice will be posted at the expiration of this temporary authorized change." Is there anyone taking bets on whether the webmaster will EVER receive the memorandum rescinding the change? Hmmm? I'll just bet NO.
