I'm Confused
Posted by EdFriedman2, Jun 24 2009, 03:20 PMApparently, Chicago has a blood supply shortage owing to a rise in violent crime. There must be many horrific knife, chainsaw and pointed-stick crimes in the Windy City, because handguns are illegal there.
Clueless

So Marco Rubio, a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Florida, made the fairly obvious observation that “…the situation in Iran would be a little different if they had a 2nd amendment like ours,” and a brilliant political reporter beclowned himself by completely missing the point.
Mr. Rubio was indicating that grossly falsified elections and tyrannical assaults on unarmed protesters unhappen in the United States precisely because we are a population capable of resisting such tyranny. Our politicians may not be honest, but they are not (yet) so craven as to falsify tens of millions of votes in a (sham) election or to massively and systematically oppress peaceful demonstrators. Why? Because we have the means to make a club-wielding thug think twice about wielding his club. But that’s clearly an insane idea our founding fathers would never have thought up, right?
BREAKING: NY Times Columnist Implicitly Endorses an Armed Citizenry
Posted by EdFriedman2, Jun 18 2009, 01:22 PM
In the most shocking development of the week, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman (no relation) implicitly endorsed the concept of an armed citizenry as the best defense against tyranny. Speaking about the little kerfuffle in Iran, he said:
“Second, even if defeated electorally, the Islamists and their regimes have a trump card: guns. Guns trump cellphones. Bang-bang beats tweet-tweet. The Sunni Awakening in Iraq succeeded because the moderates there were armed. I doubt Ahmadinejad will go peacefully.”
Clearly, his editors at the dying publication were too enthralled with his analysis of events to recognize his (implied) support for the Second Amendment. Logic is not allowed in their precious fish wrapping.

Waaaaaaaah!

It seems our mincing cousins across the pond subsidize far more than a failing and useless healthcare system. Apparently, the Brits give government cash to aspiring Olympians, or at least they did until they decided to spend away a generation on bailouts, stimuli, etc. You know, kind of like some other country…
Anyway, here’s the money quote:
“Without funding, though, Ms. Geikie will be at a big disadvantage. Training is particularly costly for shooters in the U.K., where strict gun laws force them to travel to Switzerland or use air pistols—an option Ms. Geikie likens to training with a badminton racquet to go up against Roger Federer at Wimbledon.”
Sounds like a lovely place, Britain.
New AR Air Rifle
Posted by EdFriedman2, Jun 12 2009, 07:20 PM
This is pretty sweet. Creedmoor Sports and Anschutz have teamed up on an air rifle based on the AR platform. The National Match Air Rifle (NMAR) is intended for competitive shooters as a means of practicing in foul weather without risking equipment damage (as in shooting in your basement), but I think we can all find a use for a cheap-to-feed AR these days. It’s a tad expensive, but given the companies involved, the NMAR is probably of the highest quality. And just think of the savings in ammo…
Also, Murdoc found a good use for this rifle already.
A New Blog for Your “Entertainment”

Noted two-sport high school superstar Kyle Wintersteen now has a blog at AmericanHunter.org for some reason. It is a highly entertaining look inside the mind of a man who once scored four touchdowns in one game for Polk High, but didn’t really do much after he turned 18.
Kyle discusses his obsession with fudd guns and animal husbandry in his first post.
A Piece of History
Posted by EdFriedman2, Jun 10 2009, 01:22 PM
As I may have mentioned, working here has some awesome benefits. Yesterday, I was able to handle this Winchester Model 21 from the National Firearms Museum’s collection pictured below. The Model 21 is a great shotgun, but this particular side-by-side belonged to someone rather important.
Sixty-five years ago right now, he was rather busy.
A Finger for the Brady Bunch

Sebastian points out the ridiculous assertion by one Doug Pennington of the Brady Campaign to End Gun Ownership Violence that he can count the number of Federal gun laws on one hand. What Sebastian doesn’t realize is that Doug’s hands look like this.
Of course, I only need one finger to tell Dougie how much I appreciate his efforts.
The Obligatory “The Media is Beyond Stupid” Post
Posted by EdFriedman2, Jun 4 2009, 06:16 PM
This editorial from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel demonstrates the media’s total ignorance about guns.
The editorial board calls for a reinstatement of the failed and unjust “assault weapons” ban, which is par for the course for the leftist media. But, they don’t stop there. No, to these geniuses, the 7.62 mm ammo fired from a Norinco (an AK knock-off, so probably 7.62x39 mm) has no sporting purpose save for hunting rhinoceros. Given that 7.62x39 mm meets only the minimum standard for deer, one wonders how a rhino would react to the pesky annoyance of the fabled Russian round lodged in its skin. Probably like Mongo.
These clods at the Sun-Sentinel clearly don’t understand that virtually every hunting round for big game can penetrate body armor with far greater ease than those which feed the dreaded “assault weapons.” The antis claim they don’t want to take your bolt-action .270 Win., but wait until they find out it can penetrate body armor from 500+ yards. Then it will be a “high-powered sniper rifle” that rapes babies and massacres policemen.
While this editorial board is clearly too stupid to reason with, we must not give up the fight to correct their lies, whether spread out of ignorance or malice.
Spilling Guts

This varmint had a terrible secret. After its mound-mate ingested some Federal TNT Green at a rather high velocity, this nasty critter proceeded to nibble at his buddy's remains. Such behavior is deplorable, so I deplored it with extreme precision.
There is no better way to test your marksmanship skill than to clean up some prairie dog for a rancher. With persistent crosswinds and ranges from 3 to 450 yards, they make the finest reactive targets. Fans of ARs or other semi-automatic rifles will find prairie dog shooting rewarding and fun. If you’re not a big game hunter, but want to test your skills on targets other than steel or paper, I strongly recommend a trip out west to help control these rodents.
