SACRILEGE!
Posted by EdFriedman2, Jan 29 2010, 04:08 PMAn Army Three Star General wants to scrap bayonet training. Given that a British soldier used a bayonet to skewer some Taliban as recently as last autumn, perhaps General Hertling should reconsider. I call for some hearings.
Nifty Product from Victorinox

I found an unexpectedly cool product at the Victorinox booth at SHOT Show. I was planning to see Swiss Army Knives and assorted utility tools, which I did, but the company has a particular Swiss Army knife that is simply out of this world.
The Presentation Master is the perfect tool for the urban MacGyver. It includes scissors, a nail file with a screwdriver tip and a blade, but also a laser pointer and a 32GB USB drive with a built-in fingerprint scanner to ensure the encrypted contents remain secure. The unit also has an integrated Bluetooth remote control for voice-directed presentations.
So while you cut some cardboard to make a fully functional aircraft, you can show your audience how to escape from a locked cellar while updating them on the last fiscal’s net income before taxes. Victorinox also offers a version without the pointy things so TSA won’t hassle you.

The Shield at the Show

I received a surprising letter today from the NFL via Reebok’s ad agency. Those of us in the gun world know the league’s official attitude toward firearms is abysmally ignorant. It tells players that guns will only get them into trouble and they should never be around guns, much less own them. It should offer firearm safety classes to players so they would know where guns are legal to own and/or carry and know not to, say, carry a Glock without a permit, in your sweatpants, in New York City.
That said, the letter invites me to the SHOT Show introduction of officially licensed NFL apparel and gear “for the NFL fan who has a passion for outdoor sports.” The NFL is going camo, with camo jerseys, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, decals, banners, pennants, etc., along with blaze orange gear as well. The new line is called the “Open Field Collection.”
I think this is a great step forward for a league that has ignored a substantial part of its fan base. Just watch a game at Lambeau field—the entire stadium is packed with folks in blaze orange winter gear (in August, because it is friggin’ cold in Green Bay). I always wear my hunting stuff to games from November through the end of the season because, well, hunting and watching football both involve sitting in a seat for several hours in the bitter cold, among other similarities.
Chad Pennington and Chris Cooley are slated to be on hand for the introduction, though Pennington will probably hurt his shoulder and need a backup to step in for him. I’m a Jets fan, so trust me, I know.

Steve from The Firearm Blog stopped by our offices yesterday. It was great to finally meet him and to show him around NRA Headquarters. He got a tour of the National Firearms Museum and we took him down to shoot a Savage 110 BA chambered in .338 Lapua Mag. on our lane at the NRAHQ Range. Steve is seen here holding the results of our short time on the range.
You can read more about his visit here.
UPDATE: Steve has posted more on his visit here and here.
Me Want
Posted by EdFriedman2, Jan 5 2010, 07:20 PMAs I mentioned earlier, the Remington/Bushmaster ACR looks awesome based on everything I’ve seen, which is largely confined to some pictures and using it in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. This video only makes me want one even more.
